Fast in My Own Backyard

The other day mom made up a little sequence that was based on one we did in class on Tuesday. It had an angled lead out, funky weaves (mom put together 12 poles, 4 2x2s, 6 stick in the ground, 2 2x2s - you'll see it was too weird for me and slowed me down so then she took out the 2x2s), serpentine handling, send to the tire and finished with some tight angles coming over the last two jumps. Notice how I am doing all the running and mom is basically just standing around. She says that's how it's supposed to be! :) Why can't I be that fast and confident at trials? Some day!

Yesterday we worked again on the tunnel entrance discrimination. That is difficult for me! I totally get the obvious entrance part and go flying into the tunnel. But for the non-obvious entrance, mom could call out my name all day and I still go flying into the obvious entrance! I can't hear my name when that tunnel is also calling out to me! So we need lots more practice on the entire concept.

I don't know if we are going to do a training challenge some where today. (We might at least try the walk in the other neighborhood this morning and hope we don't run into the OTCH/MACH woman again!) I didn't realize that it was only a 30 day challenge and the 30 days were over a long time ago. We have gotten lazy about it ever since Marie told us the challenge was basically over! We needed her motivation! Anybody else want to try to get out there some place every week? We want to keep doing it through October maybe.

Gotta zoom!

Ricky

I'm sorry Ricky! I didn't mean to let you down on your training in new places. I just usually find that if I set a shorter goal initially I'm more likely to succeed and not get discouraged.

We are still going to the local parks once a week to train, but I haven't been in a posting mood lately and I don't know if that counts because we mainly go to 2 or 3 different parks over and over again, just rotate.

If you'll give me the details of what you want to do with your challenge, we'll join you! It'll be good for me. :-) Do you want the places you go to train each week need to be totally new, or just a location different from home or class?

I didn't mean to make you feel bad, Marie! I was just amazed at how as soon as I found out that you weren't necessarily doing the challenge any more, my dedication to it slacked way off! I did just come home from my other-neighborhood walk and it went better than last time.

I don't think we have to go to a totally new location each week but yes, somewhere other than class or home. It's difficult to find lots of new safe places for me because of the cars. I have seen from your YouTube videos that you are getting out to the park to train and I am impressed! Glad to hear you want to keep going on the training challenge! Thanks!

You guys are awesome! Your mom is doing some amazing handling moves.

I should really join in on your challenge too, at least until I go back to school.

Hey Ricky, I was thinking about you when I took Katie-girl to the park this evening..we did a little heeling but it was mostly hot. I did let go of her leash when we were done (far far away from the road) to let her get a bit ahead of me so that I could do an unexpected recall, but just me dropping the leash made her come back to me! LOL!

How's YOUR recall going? Still following that whistle? Cause if you're going to go exploring to train that would be important!

I feel your pain. Legend is so fast at home but average at best in the ring. Getting better though-keep up the hard work!

Ricky.... you and your mom are looking MARVELOUS! So much fun to see you all running. We would not mind doing a challenge and going somewhere new to train every week. I always do best with structure too.

Those weaves are so independent! Mika needs some lessons from you! :)

HI Ricky, We didn't join Marie's challenge last time, but I need a good swift kick of motivation so if you start a challenge again Maizey, Meeka and I would love to join!

Eagerly waiting for the details!

Wow Ricky, look at you go. You zoom right through your weaves and are doing awesome on the lead outs. Keep up the great work. Your back yard looks like a lot of fun. :)

CUTE dog! I love watching him do agility. That encourages my dog Ace and I to get out there and practice more.

Also love your training challenges to work on new concepts, in new areas, etc.
