Tuesday's class

My class posts aren't very interesting any more. I can't get outside to make demo videos and we are refining our skills - going back over handling moves and trying to make them better - so there isn't a whole lot to talk about. Today we worked on forward motion front crosses again - this time making more of an effort to think about whether we wanted true collection (the FMFC placed your jump height away from the landing side of the jump), relative collection or more extension. And we were reminded that of course the handler has to be ahead of the dog to do the FMFC and also has to get her outside arm up and ready before the dog commits to the jump. FMFC are really just recalls to heel in motion so think about that especially when practicing them at one jump.

I did pretty well - I did refuse the double in my first sequence but did it after that. I read mom's FC well etc. After mom and I ran a longish sequence and did it right, one lady in our class yelled out some thing like, "Well it's easy to do if you have a slow dog!" Mom yelled back (half teasing but half serious too) - "Shut up!" I mean mom sounded like she was kidding and she doesn't go around telling people to shut up. But seriously, we were sort of hurt by that comment. We know that my slower speed allows time for mom to get information to me but if we do something well, can't we just feel good about it?

Gotta zoom!

That was rude. Jeaoulsy, brings the worst out of people.

We would have clapped for you. Especially when your mom told the lady to shut up.

To be fair, the lady was probably kidding and mom over reacted - hard to imagine my mom doing that, huh? LOL!

She's just jealous cause he dog screws up because she gives confusing messages. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

OMG Chris, How rude!!! and mean!! I would have been so mad. The techer didnt say anything? She is lucky you just said "shut Up". I probably would have told her to Kiss my you know what. LOL Dont let her get to you. You work hard and practice, thats why you can do a running front cross. Diana

People can be so rude. Remember the time at the trial when Sagira got a Q and someone said how slow she was? People just don't think sometimes. Keep up the good work and don't pay attention to them...and good for you telling her to shut up LOL

I don't know why people feel the need to make comments like that. It's probably because their dog STINKS and they want to bring down others to make themselves feel better. That must have hurt a lot. :(

You're not slow at all. I've seen you go pretty fast.. and you're getting more and more confident at trials, so your YPS are going to be blazing soon!

You are not slow - just a little momentum challenged :) I think you do GREAT - I have seen your video's and you move along just right.

that really wasnt a nice comment but I bet made out of her frustration at having trouble, and bet your mom was looking good and that is why the lady had to find an excuse your mom looked good and she didnt...which is not a good thing to do, but I would take it as a compliment. Hummm, class had some good things to think about, I always find your classes and what you guys work on very interesting, although I do miss your demo videos, but with the weather, that cant be helped ;-).

Ugh some people just don't know when to keep their mouth shut. In obedience one day Layla came running so fast and cute, but sat slightly crooked. This one woman (whose dog creeps along miserably but sits straight) felt the need to come up to me - while I was so happy with how fast Layla ran to me - "you know, she sat crooked." I wish people would mind their own business.

You know what I think is sad? That training can be so stressful for people that they lash out at someone else for no reason. Makes you wonder if they are enjoying spending time with their dog anymore doesn't it? Pretty sad.

I'm glad you and your mom are getting to refine your handling skills, and no worries about not being able to do videos right now. We'll just look forward to them returning once it's warm enough for us all to get outside again. :-)

That woman is a big meanie!!
Don't worry. We know how hard both you and your mom are working in agility and we think you are doing so great! That woman is just jealous coz her dog can't be as good as you.

I love your summary of FMFCs that you give. It's something I should write down on a notecard and keep with me for a review:

stay ahead
OA up before commitment
placement relative to jump is determined by how much (if any) collection needed]
FMFCs are RTH in motion

Excellent.
