Sunny Saturday

I love the jump in place exercise in the video - I could do it all day! What could be easier - stand, boing, get treat, repeat! LOL! For my agility guru foundation friends - does it look like I push off from my back legs and jump like I should? (same video but with some slow motion editing here)

Yesterday I made major progress with my dumbbell (you'll be relieved to know that there is no video of that!). Mom stood up straight and acted more confident and I held on to that DB and walked in a circle a few times (on leash). I only dropped it once. We haven't tried it yet today but I am sure we will.

It was sunny and 25 this afternoon and we went on an awesome walk at the park! Even though mom hates winter, she does like going to the park in the winter. There are very few bikers (there was one though on a snowy bike path - crazy) and joggers (there was one of those too) and cars and people. We got to walk in some places we never go - like on the bike path. We saw an opossum out in broad daylight - poor guy was maybe hungry and hopefully not sick? I met a miniature American Eskimo dog that I had met awhile ago but hadn't seen in months and I actually PLAYED with him a little (until he annoyed me and I had to growl to get him to stop). It was all very fun!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend! I finished my annual holiday video yesterday so I'll post it soon!

Gotta zoom!

Ricky

It looks like he is pushing off on his back legs. If you could do it in slow motion , that would be more helpful.

25 is still freezing. I dont know how you do it. LOL

Sounds like you had a busy day of jumping and walking. The walk at the park sounds really nice and congrats on your improvement with your dumbbell. :)

I think he's taking off from the rear most of the time. That having been said, I have trouble being able to tell for sure.

It was interesting for me to watch this, because this was the first exercise that I did with Dare when we started jump training. I was using the Linda Mecklinberg book. I noticed that Dare was boinging over the jump though, not pushing off nicely from the rear.

When we started working with Andrea she also had us set her up with one jump work. But we set her in a sit right in front of the jump, with a target lid on the floor right in front of the jump. I will say that it was much easier in that format for me to see if she was just lifting her front feet off and powering from the rear, or if she was shifting weight forward, and giving a little preparatory push with the front end.

I'm not saying that you should do that, but for me, it was easier to see when I watched the videos.

By the way...what video editing software are you using? I'm looking for something that's easy to use.

I can't quite see if Ricky is pushing with his back legs as the distance is too short and also I think the jump bar is a little high for him so it looks more like a bounce to me. Maybe if you want to practice this one jump exercise, you want to lower down the jump to make it easier for Ricky to stride? Just a suggestion.

Looks like he's using his back end to me.

We were taught this exercise like Marie described, with a sit and target on opposite side. That might help, because it looks like Ricky is focusing more on your hand(where the treat is) than the jump. That is exactly what Oreo would do too!

Thanks everyone for the good advice! I will try the sit and jump to the target exercise and lowering the bar.

Marie - we just downloaded a free version of VideoPad -
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Video_and_Animation_Tools/VideoPad_Video_Editor.html

Be careful and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Videopad editor 1.0 download (looks like they try to trick you into dowmloading other things). I haven't experiemented with it enough yet to really be able to use it. But it does not convert my flip videos into lesser quality so I like that.

Awesome, I'll go take a look at it. :-)

I love that second photo of Roxy...she (he?) looks like "do NOT take another picture of me! Do NOT!!

I get that cute turn of the head too when I tell her she'll get a treat...works almost every time!

I love my video software, I was using just the windows software and that actually does a great job on vista or windows 7, then now I am using corelle video studio pro x 3 and I think I did the free demo for thirty days and then waited and they have sales all the time and it was like forty bucks, but doing stops and taking snap shots off there or doing slow mo is sooooo easy, anyway, it was fun to try the thirty day free trial. As for the jumping I was going to suggest putting your fists on the floor or putting the treat on the floor so that the focus was a little lower, he looked to me to mostly be using his rear end but it would be neat to see if it changed anything if his focus was a little lower....I wonder if he would tuck his feet a little more and round himself a tad more, but I thought it really looks pretty good. How cool RIcky was feeling happy and actually wanted to play, Ricky is a remarkable guy!!! Thanks for the help with the holding a toy while walking, it all gave us a good place to start and some good ideas.

Well, how I got a comment here that was intended for Diana I don't know. And I'm no jumping expert..so I won't even tell you that I have no idea if Ricky is pushing off with his back legs! But he sure is CUTE!
