Last Friday we went to a new pet trail - it was awesome! The trail goes down through woods and then along the creek and then back up and out into a grassy prairie. We had the place all to ourselves. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!
Gotta zoom!

Ricky, that looks like a perfect place for shelties. I never heard of a trail just for pets. There should be one in every town.
We don't have anything like this either. It would be really good to have one. Is it a public park? How is it funded?
is such a nice place for a long walk
Hi everybody! We are fortunate enough to have quite a few metro parks in the area and most of them have a pet trail. So they are public parks. On their website it says, "Metro Parks is funded principally by a 10-year Franklin County property tax levy along
with state and local government funds, grants and earned income. The current 0.65-mill
levy, which expires in 2010, generates about 60 percent of the income for the park system.
On average, this costs a property owner about $12 per $100,000 of home value."
Glad you asked the question, Dawn, because I never really knew how the parks were funded. We are really lucky to have so many nice places to visit!
That is nice that its a pet trail. Does that mean only people with pets can be on it? The parks I walk at , there are lots of bikes. I know they have the right to be there but they are flying. I get worried Im going to get run over or the dogs are. Usually the dogs alert me that someone is coming. But the other day none of us heard the bike. He came around the corner and I couldnt react fast enough. Guiness bit the guys tire. The guy never even slowed down. Maybe I'll write the park a letter and see if one of the trails can be a pet trail. thanks Diana
Some of the pet trails are for people or people and pets only - so no bikers. And some of them are also bike and jog trails. We don't walk on those very often because I love to chase bikes and joggers too much! Mom worries about me getting hit by a bike too. So we are very careful when we go to a bike/pet trail and only go when it is not crowded!
we have great parks, but the trails are either bike/jog trails, where I have the same concern as Diana about getting hit, or having Katie dart out in front of someone, or nature trails where dogs aren't allowed. Hmmm...pet trails would be so COOL. Good idea about writing the park to see if something could be done.
that looks a lot like where I went today and it was sooooo much fun with no leash - except for the whole duck incident!!!
